Welcome, bienvenue, willkommen, come on in…

25 Nov, 2004

Hello everybody; I’m your host for today’s grand opening of the first official City of Heroes European website. My name’s Rockjaw, although my mother christened me otherwise, and if you’ll indulge me for a minute I’d like to give you a tour of this fine facility…

Created and maintained by NCsoft Europe, this is the first in a series of three websites (collect the set!) that’ll be launching between now and Christmas, covering the main European languages which City of Heroes is being localised into.

This first site - found, I hope you realise by now, at uk.cityofheroes.com - is our English language site. It’s primarily staffed by my minion (sorry, I meant lackey) Bridger, who’ll you’ll find elsewhere in our News section talking about people in Spandex. Next up will be our German language site, which will launch extremely soon at de.cityofheroes.com, and finally we’ll be joined by our freres across la mer when the French language site launches at fr.cityofheroes.com.

Of course, we’re joined at the hip with our transatlantic chums over at www.cityofheroes.com, which will gradually acknowledge our existence after they get on their treadmills and work off that Thanksgiving turkey they’re currently ingesting. Work those thighs, boys!

What do we have for you? Well, bearing in mind this is very much ‘phase one’ of our site, with plenty of more stuff to come over the short months before City of Heroes launches, we’ve still got a few things to gawp at.

You might want to start, especially if you’re new to City of Heroes, with the section snappily titled What is City of Heroes. Follow that up with a helping of Frequently Asked Questions, and if you like, send us a few more to answer.

When you’re done there, you could explore a few of our Game Features - and then take a gander at a few of our lovely screenshots, pictures from inside the virtual wonderland that is Paragon City.

For even more nourishing information, devour our News articles - handily sub-divided for your browsing ease.

Don’t leave without a souvenir though - we’ve put together some eye-popping wallpapers for you, with more coming, and all of them have our address on there just to help you remember where they came from.

Enough to get you started? We hope so. We’re gonna have a lot of fun in the future, and we’d love to hear what you’re thinking - so get in touch, whichever way you please.

Good news indeed - I’ve been waiting for CoH EU for a while now. I see CoH: Deluxe is being advertised now in PC:G (though I’m sure it’s being advertised elsewhere too). I dont suppose that means you guys are any closer to figuring out what “extras” we get with the “deluxe” version? :D

0Posted by Dan on 27 Nov at 08:16

Woo cant wait! I play the U.S version atm, but will be nice to game with some fellow Europeans. /images/smileys/cheese.gif

3Posted by Rockjaw on 28 Nov at 10:38

Siygess, I can tell you we’re pretty darn close to figuring out exactly what’s going to be in the box… and as recently as Friday we were having conversations about how much extra stuff we could cram in.

Trust me, we’re hoping to bring the best edition we can to everyone in Europe.  /images/smileys/grin.gif

Is it still true that we won’t be able to play with players in the USA?  Are the servers still going to be split between Europe and US?

Or is the decision still being made?

I have friends in US and UK, some in UK still have to buy the game so will be playing in a different place to me, if I stay on US servers

This is gonne be a very nice christmas :D

I have some friends in the US that play COH-US and asked me to join in, but there was no real chance for me to get it here in germany…

Ive been wanting to try COH for a while. And i hope the beta will gimme some insights of this game. As i was too late for the American.

will there be a dutch site too ?

0Posted by Jonathan on 30 Nov at 13:31

Alright Can`t forget about Canadians though can not wait to play with you guys!

3Posted by Rockjaw on 30 Nov at 13:44

Binary, I’m afraid right now we’ll only be producing sites for the three languages CoH will be localised into - English, French and German.

At some point in the future, it’s possible Dutch will happen, but right now there are no plans.

Shouldn’t stop you from building a fan site, though. /images/smileys/cheese.gif

i have the american version of city of heros but i am playing it in the uk dose this mean the end of my lag

0Posted by Eco on 30 Nov at 18:05

Hi.

Good news about the game coming to Europe, shame about the segregation from our American friends.

Can we transfer our US heroes over to the UK servers?

Eco.

The site looks great. Keep up the great work.  Your American brothers are excited about the European release of the game just as much as we were about the US launch. /images/smileys/smile.gif /images/smileys/smile.gif

COH in Europe, nice..... Been playing the american version since Beta and enjoyed it very much. Will be nice to have fellow players in the same time zone, although we are a bunch of Europeans on th American servers as well. One question though, will I be able to transfer my COH America toons to the EU server?

0Posted by voov on 01 Dec at 03:08

only one interests me. which paying possibilities will it give for German or European user?

0Posted by Techsupport on 01 Dec at 03:20

It’s pretty different, the layout of this site compared to the original one.

Ohwell, welcome to Paragon City all you prospective heroes.

“"Is it still true that we wont be able to play with players in the USA?  Are the servers still going to be split between Europe and US?

“”

The comments the devs made on the main forums here…

http://www.coh.com

...said they were going to seperate the servers, so only people with the EU version can play on EU servers, only those with the US version will be able to play on existing servers or the test server.

Unfortunetly it also seems to mean if you have an existing account, you have to buy the game again. And it means the English speaking European CoH community will be split in half by server farm, like they are for DAoC.

Which is all a damn shame.

3Posted by Rockjaw on 01 Dec at 04:31

Voov

European customers will need to pay for subscriptions in Euros, and will be able to pay by credit card (including Visa, MasterCard and American Express).

In Germany, you’ll also be able to pay via ELV transfer.

In France, you’ll be able to play using Carte Bleu, or Carte Bancaire.

In the UK you’ll pay in pounds, and you’ll be able to also pay with Solo and Maestro cards (formerly Switch).

Now that I think about it, there is a question that never got answered on the US board.

I have my account on the US servers, and I am probably going to stay there too. But what if I get that special DVD box that’s shipped over to Europe, can I use that code to upgrade the US account?

3Posted by Rockjaw on 01 Dec at 10:18

Techsupport:

If you ship the US DVD Edition over to Europe, you can use the code in it to upgrade your account.

0Posted by Dorkus on 02 Dec at 02:42

Great news! As an european player in US servers I’m excited about this.

However, to get me to switch over to the EU servers one thing is required; I have to be able to transfer my characters to the new server. I’m very casual, getting about 5 hours of playtime a week, so I’m just not willing to sacrifice the hundreds of hours of playtime on my characters for this.

To require me to purchase a new copy of the game would be a big annoyance, but I think I would do that *if* I could transfer my characters.
