Spy vs Spy?

15 Mar, 2005

Issue #4: Colosseum, the next feature update for City of Heroes, is drawing closer, and the guys from Gamespy recently got a chance to take a look at some of the new features - including the eagerly anticipated Arena, where heroes can pit their skill and powers against each other for the first time:

I was kind of blown away by the breadth of options available when setting up matches. You can opt for one-on-one matches, team battles, and even matches that pit entire supergroups against each other.

You can read more about the Arena - and Issue #4’s new costume options and body scaling features - in the full article.

Arena sounds really cool but what happens to us Empath defenders who dedicate our time and resources to keeping fellow heroes alive at the expence of firepower?

Don’t really fancy going up against a Blaster with my Moonbeam and 2 slot enhancement /images/smileys/smile.gif

Medi-Kate: I’m sure that Empath Defenders will be just as valued in team Arena matches as they are in normal groups… /images/smileys/wink.gif

I think Empathy will be sought after highly, don’t ye worry.

I can’t wait to see what Taunt and Provoke will be like /images/smileys/wink.gif

Remember as well that nearly all the bad guys in CoH have the same or similar powers as heroes do as well.

Yeah but this will be much harder as there will be much more hitpoints to take off hte opponents.

I cant wait to see wot its gonna be like inside the arena. Will we be able to watch other peoples matches in the stands? Will we gain debt when we die? IS the arena a wide open space or is there obsticles like when ure in a warehouse or sumthing?

Rigor MortisThe answers to most of your questions can be found in our Feature Updates section, which has two pages of previews of Issue #4 in general and the Arena in particular.

To summarise, though (I’m nice like that): Bystanders and defeated opponents can watch the match via remote-control cameras, you will not earn debt from defeats, and the Arena uses holographic projectors capable of replicating many places in and around Paragon City, from open outside areas to underground caves, building interiors and more.
