Great that I6 is here but the fact that I am now completely unable to connect to CoH isnt so great. Combined with the boards also being down for maintainance this is a little frustrating :(

Be nice if i didnt have to download the entire 1.6gig again, Despite pre-loading. I can even see the file in the dir. Plus i cant connect to the damn updaters now >_>

Is there any chance that CoH will receive decent update servers? I’m new to this game and to be honest, I’m not impressed with the patching servers. Connection #86 and still nothing downloaded.

I got over 24hours of patching to do.. not happy

as im not buying into villians.

this seems pretty cool, Got two things confusing me, i did the update after logging out of the game to save time when it came to it, but now it wants me to update again, confuses me, also having trouble accessing servers still, but thats probably because work is still being done

Hey guys. To answer a few questions:

The boards will be a while yet, I’m afraid - we’re still hoping to have them back up tonight, but I honestly can’t say when right now.

As far as the patching goes, we are aware of the problem that some players are experiencing where you have to re-download the Issue #6 files even though you’ve already got them via the pre-download. We would strongly suggest that you not attempt to connect to the servers until we have resolved this issue.

If you took part in the City of Villains European Beta, you can save yourself a significant amount of time by doing the following:

1. Quit out of the Updater.

2. Go to your City of Heroes folder (Crogram FilesCity of Heroes by default) and back it up by making a copy of it.

3. Go to the folder where you installed the Beta client (Crogram FilesCoHTest by default) and copy the contents into your City of Heroes folder (Crogram FilesCity of Heroes by default).

4. Launch the game again.

This should save a lot of the downloading. If everything works, you can delete the copy of your City of Heroes folder you made in Step 2.

Still trying to connect, any news on whats happening Bridger or should I just go watch the Lord of the Rings Trilogy while we wait??

Thanks for the update Bridger, however the problem alot of us are having is that the updater doesn’t connect to anything.  It just counts up (#657 and counting.)

Its not connecting to city of heroes since the new update all it says when you load up the updater “connecting” .Ives left it to connecting.. 599 once and it still did’nt connect can any help me out plz.

I think it was a huge mistake releasing this update on the day the boards were taken down.

It makes it difficult for players to get information and to ask questions.

Not to mention the fact that the servers have been down since 12 o’clock, with no warning, nor announcement made about the update.  There was not even so much as a notice on the website explaining what was happening until 18:30. 

I understand that updates take time and cause delays and problems, but to take down the boards on the same day as the release, and to make little or no attempt to give fair warning about it and its size, shows either extremely poor planning or a marked disregard for paying cutsomers.

Lmao… all the server status’ are “Unknown”. How can a server status be “Unknown?”...

Any news yet as to when the servers will be back up. it said they would be down at 12pm for 5hrs and its now nearly 9pm. whats happen??????

Im downloading the GAME, because i just bought it online, and i cant get to download it because of this. Its not connecting, how can i do this faster?

Does this delay to the forums mean the Character Transfer Service will also be delayed ? It is already delayed so i was hoping for some sort of announcements.

Did what you suggested bridger, now at 236th connection attempt and counting. Are the servers still down? Thought they were meant to come up at 5?

I was wondering if you had an estimate as to how long the servers would be down for and if so could you post something?

What’s happening with the Updater is this:

Every time someone starts the Updater, it checks with the patch servers and compares that player’s version of the game with the current one. It then ‘builds’ a download for that specific player. It has to do this, as different players may have different versions of the game - if they haven’t logged on for a while, for example.

Tonight, there is an issue where the Updater or patch servers are not recognising the pre-download files for Issue #6. Because of this, the patch servers are having to create a 1.5 GB+ download for every player who tries to connect.

This takes a lot of time.

When you start your Updater, you get added to the queue. As the patch servers are under extreme stress, and the queue is very long, it can take a very long time to connect. As more people try to connect and leave their Updater window open, the queue continues to grow.

In all honesty the best thing you can do is to first follow the instructions I gave above (if you were in the CoV Beta), then close your Updater window and go do something else for an hour or two. Then try it again. If it doesn’t connect within 30 seconds, close it and go do something else for another hour or two, and so on.

I do apologise for the problems and the inconvenience they are causing. We are working hard to try and fix them.

weak, really, really weak.  The US servers are all up (bar 2) and their boards work.  Would have been an idea to actually get something working before taking everything down

Warshade-obot: The European servers are up - the problem, as I explained above, lies with the patch servers and the number of people trying to download a huge patch at the same time.

However, in case you missed my previous apologies, we are very sorry for these problems, and we are working as hard as possible to resolve them.

Since we all bought into the game and subscription fees are paid every month a wise choice would have been to mass produce a CD ( it does not cost a lot now days ) and post it out to all the people who pay each month so that a 1.gab download is not required for everyone. The preload would have been on most peoples PC’s and those who have a bandwidth limit would also not be affected. Its a bit of a farce in reality, and another example of the company shooting itself in the foot yet again.  Still cant get on and I am not happy....

On the brighter side - fantastic name for i6 /images/smileys/cheese.gif big thumbs up to whoever thought that one up!

yeah will copying the cov beta files into coh actually cancel dowloading altogether or just speed it up

Have some of you guys never had a bad day at the office? OK, so things have gone a little pearshaped on the pre-download front, but hey, i’m sure they’re doing the best they can. The last thing they need is all of us whinging “I’ve got a 100mb connection and it don’t work” or “this is poor planning” or whatever. Do you really think that they planed for this to happen? if they wanted to make life hard they wouldn’t offer the the pre-downloads in the 1st place. Yes some of you have had time wasted and maybe not got to do that mission you were looking forward to, but thats life and things go wrong. We have to do the best we can and get on with it. We are talking lots of changes here, not just a few tweaks.

Give the guys a break.
